Lavender time....

Gathering lavender is a pleasure for me and Tuti. Assoumi...not that he hates it, but sometimes he's just too lazy to do it..:) But this time his father gave him a task to gather enough for the Lavender herbal oil. This oil is very good for the joint pains, and since his grandma is suffering from her knee pain, this time the oil is meant for her. Making the oil is very easy, just fill around half of the jar with lavender flowers and cover with good quality olive oil, then put in the sun for around 2-3 days. After that strain and put in the dark place. The resulting oil should have a distinctive lavender smell. Essential oil is also an option this year since we have too much lavender in the doorway. But maher has to help with the karke and the preparation, I dont know if he can. We still have to cut some lavender to dry and hang in the bedroom on the mosquito net. It's ability to repel insects is really questionable since our ants (those who insist on living in the doorway no matter how hard I try to get rid of them) were caught stealing lavender flowers several times. (I even have pictures!) but anyway its smell will fill the room and it will be nice to sleep in that atmosphere. I also have hung some dried mint there....
By the way Assoumi insists that Uncle Ibrahim's bees are also using our lavender to make honey, so he says we should not pay for the honey as long as he doesn't pay for the nectar...:) LOL!
